Ho Chi Minh City University of Law held a meeting to exchange information with Arizona State University (ASU)

On the afternoon of August 28, 2023, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law held a meeting to exchange information with Arizona State University (ASU) regarding various issues related to education, research, academia, and cooperation between the two educational institutions.

The working session was attended by Dr. Le Truong Son, Vice President overseeing the University; Associate Professor Dr. Tran Viet Dung, Head of the International Law Department; Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Head of the Administration Department; Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Thuy Duong, in charge of Postgraduate Training, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Legal Science of Vietnam; Ms. Huynh Thi Thu Trang, Director of the Center for Quality Assurance and International Cooperation in Legal Education and Training; Mr. Phan Anh Tuan, Head of the Administrative Organization Department; Ms. Nguyen Quoc Ninh, Deputy Head of the Department of Human Resource Management and a specialist from the Department of Administrative Organization and Research Management.

On the side of Arizona State University, Mr. Jeffrey Goss, Vice President of ASU and the Vietnam - Southeast Asia Program, and Mr. Tran Van Thai, Program Manager for Accreditation and Quality Assurance at the Vietnam Representative Office, were present.

The working session with representatives from Arizona State University took place in Meeting Room A.905

At the beginning of the working session, Dr. Le Truong Son, Vice President overseeing the University, and Mr. Jeffrey Goss, Vice President of Arizona State University's Vietnam - Southeast Asia Program, provided an overview of the historical development, mission, educational programs, research areas, resources, and potential for growth of the two educational institutions. Subsequently, both sides engaged in discussions regarding potential collaboration and development strategies across various domains such as international project coordination, undergraduate and postgraduate education, faculty development, and research.

During the exchange of perspectives, Dr. Le Truong Son emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City University of Law is one of the top two institutions for legal education nationwide. In the context of cooperation with Arizona State University, Dr. Le Truong Son expressed the aspiration to establish joint training programs in Business Administration, Law, and English Language. Moreover, the university places significant emphasis on attracting and cultivating teaching staff. Therefore, Dr. Le Truong Son hopes that outstanding graduates from Ho Chi Minh City University of Law can partake in postgraduate studies and exchanges at Arizona State University. Additionally, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law proposed furthering exchanges by sending university management officials to Arizona State University to acquire knowledge on management methodologies and business connections.

In response to the proposals from the University, Mr. Jeffrey Goss shared that the Law School of Arizona State University is extremely interested in international cooperation programs, particularly in developing partnerships with schools in Vietnam. Specifically, the Master of Laws program at Arizona State University integrates both online and offline formats flexibly to provide a comfortable and proactive learning environment for students. According to Mr. Jeffrey Goss, Arizona State University also offers short-term courses for international faculty and students to facilitate convenient connections between educators and students globally.

Continuing the working session, representatives from both educational institutions engaged in more specific discussions regarding collaboration plans as well as addressing concerns about tuition fees, study duration, internship opportunities, and other related matters.

Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Thuy Duong, Head of the Graduate Training Office and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Legal Science in Vietnam, provided more detailed information about the graduate programs at Arizona State University

At the conclusion of the working session, Dr. Le Truong Son expressed his honor at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law having the opportunity to meet and collaborate with representatives from Arizona State University. In the future, the University hopes that the formal cooperation agreement between the two institutions will bring about many innovations and opportunities for the University, as well as its faculty, staff, and students.
